If you look at the numbers, the Murano sales are on fire with revenues jumping 72% in January 2015 vs. 2014 thanks to the new m odel. Looking more closely, however, youll see that there was virtually nowhere to go, but as the Murano barely outsold now dead Venza. Put this in perspective, compact Nissan Rogue is the 6th best-selling SUV in America and the Murano is 26 lower rungs on the ladder of sales. Nissan sells more Rogues in 6 days Muranos in an entire month. Rather than kill the model that Toyota did with the Venza, Nissan decided to reinvent the soft-roader once commonplace in a flagship crossover. This actually makes sense because it helps keep the average CUV 5 seats to be the goofy "middle child" between the 7-seat Rogue and Pathfinder 7 seats. Will the new, all-curvy Murano have what it takes to compete with the Edge, Grand Cherokee or even the RX 350?
outside
t outside the 2015 model is a sharp departure from the last generation and is also turning his head as the last model was bland. I did not know what to think of Murano when it was announced, the first pictures looked like someone had confused a product launch with a concept car. Although much of this had to do with the dramatic angles and color of the launch vehicle, the Murano certainly seems more exciting than Ford Edge or is double of Korea (Hyundai Santa Fe Sport). Fortunately, the engineers responsible for the 2015 model did not leave the Juke questionably style influence.
The first clue that the Murano is a production car is long front overhang, as it remains a FWD crossover with AWD optional. Contrary to what some people I met over the thought of the week, there is zero relationship with RWD In finiti QX70 (the artist formerly known as the FX37 / FX50). Help disguise the projection is a hood height, pointed snout, heapings chromium and angles that catch the eye backwards. The dramatic lines whirl up and down and culminate with bulging taillights at the rear. By polarizing the Murano looks in pictures, in reactions of people were quite positive and collected more looks than most cars Ive driven in the last 12 months.
inside
with a starting price of $ 29,560, Nissan was able to equip the interior with soft plastic over the touch than most of the competition save the luxury and near-luxury crosses shops. This allows even the high-level Platinum we tested feel more harmonious than, for example, the top trim range Grand Cherokee where a leather dashboard and real wood are nestled next to central consoles disks in plastic and doubtful faux metal finishes. As with the exterior, Nissan has taken bold steps inside as well with a hood pleather "floating" on the dashboard and dramatic for ms in abundance.
Out tester was equipped with "mocha" leather trim and panels that were a cross between silver faux wood and brushed metal. (Faux-painted-wood?) Meanwhile, light "Cashmere" Interior trim panels are getting with "spots" brown tossed by giving it a white-washed birch appearance. You better like the filling, because there are a ton of it. The faux-brushed wood begins with large signs on the doors, a band across the dashboard and a large area covering the center console and a band bisecting the center armrest. The general style is definitely great, but in my eyes barely escaped through more "weird." Contrary to some reviews I read, within cashmere is my favorite because the colors and the dashboard lighter forms are inside the cavernous feel.
As with most of the latest Nissan products, the comfort of the front seats is exceptional, easily scoring above the Lexus competition, Cadillac and Lincoln for my frame 6 feet. Edge seats in 2016 and Santa Fe miss the mark slightly, and the seats of the Grand Cherokee are probably the most rigid of all cross giving the impression that you are you sitting "on the seat not in the seat." Unfortunately, the passenger seat is not the same range of motio n as the drivers seat and you should know that the lumbar support is 2 different routes.
new LCD dashboard 7 inches of Murano is standard on all models, including the base "S". Unlike Jeep, Nissan maintains analogue dials for the tachometer and speedometer leaving the LCD screen for navigation, infotainment, computer functions of, and other read-outs. Also standard are dual zone climate control and 39.6 cubic feet of cargo space. I was surprised to find that although it is smaller and "swoopier" the Pathfinder, the Murano has almost as much space behind the second row as the largest CUV (third row folded.) The generous cargo and front seats comfortable are the main reason for the Murano on compact crossover options.
Infotainment
While the 7-inch disco-dash LCD is standard, Nissan reserves the 8 system NissanConnect inch infotainment touchscreen to the SV trim ($ 32,620 starting) or $ 860 option on the trim S. Make another right system for the base S trim seems a strange choice, especially as the functionality is largely the same, except that it lacks a bit suopport touch gesture navigation. The software is a revised version of that found in the Altima and Rogue wi th visual and functional refinements built-in applications and some integrated smartphone app features.
In addition to the screen size bump, 8 -inch system supports multi-touch gestures and the integrated browser. Whichever version you get, Nissan expanded the voice command library to compete with MyFord Touch and Chrysler uConnect. The software proved to be responsive and easy to use, though some features were less intuitive than competing systems. Our model had levels up to 11-speaker Bose system that is among the best in this class. Unlike many systems, port USB link back to the head unit and can be used as a source of media. (Most of the rear USB ports are charge only.)
Training
Sideways under the hood, youll find the same 3.5 V6 (VQ35DE) as a variety of Nissan vehicles coupled with one of the variable transaxles continuously Nissan (CVT). Because of the CVT, the power is adjusted downward variations in high performance 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. Despite sharing engines with the Pathfinder, the transmission is apparently different and more similar to the last generation Murano. The result is a tow rating of 1,500 lbs vs only 5,000lbs in 3 Nissan ranks. While towing in midsize SUVs and cross overs fell in vogue is 500lbs less as the 10-horsepower four-cylinder Santa Fe Sport and tied with a RAV4. Nissan says that some of towing vehicles in this category, and they are probably right. Mid-size Utility owners like me do towing should limit their search to the Grand Cherokee, the only option in this segment capable of towing over 7,000lbs.
Thanks to the CVT and a coefficient of drag slippery, fuel economy has improved significantly for 2015 arrives at 21/28/24 (city / highway / combined). Despite AWD adding some mechanical loss and 130lbs in the image, the EPA numbers remain the same as the FWD version. You will find more power in the competition, but youll struggle to find better fuel economy, even in the non-turbo 2.4L Santa Fe Sport. Our FWD tester barely beat the average EPA MPG to 24.2.
player
Driving dynamics were not the highlight of the latest generation Murano and acorn has not fallen too far from the tree. Nissan chose to adjust the chassis to the softer side and more comfortable in its class, giving it a plush ride despite the 20-inch wheels of our wooded model. As expected, the CVT is a particularly effective but not engaging companion. Thank you to the softer suspension, tires 235 width and lots of roll, some models of the Grand Cherokee actually score higher in terms of handling, and I do not mean the SRT model. The Murano is not mismanaged, in fact, I thought less grip than I received on my favorite mountain roads, but do not expect the Nissan curvy dancing with the new Edge Sport. The steering is numb but precise, the brake pedal is moderately firm and linear action.
Thanks to the CVT and 3,800lb curb weight, our training model of the front wheel ran from 0-60 in 7 seconds flat which is a bit faster than the V6 and grand Cherokee tied with Santa Fe Sport 2.0T and V6 and turbocharged versions of the Ford Edge. Obviously, the Edge Sport and its twin-turbo 2.7L V6 and V8 two different Jeeps are in a separate category in this regard.
Spanning just under $ 30,000 to $ 43,745, the Murano is one of the cheaper options in this small segment. Only Sotrento (available as 2 or 3 rows cross lines in most fillings 2016) and Santa Fe Sport manage to undermine the Murano when adjusting content based. D espite the high value of the Murano lighthouse status thank you finished working on the quality and consistency of the interior, something that can not really be said of the Edge or Grand Cherokee despite these vehicles that offer options upscale and features not found on this Nissan.
When considered alternative budget for the Cadillac SRX, Lincoln MKX and Lexus RX 350 also Murano rates and despite not offering the same level of high-end features. Although all luxury offers better leather, real wood, hybrid options and a luxury service, the Murano defends with a polished turn, superior fuel economy, superb front seats and a decal at least $ 6,000 less. While I personally buy the new MKX, I can not say more $ 6,500 for a comparable model is fully equipped "worth it."
If you are looking for the intersection with the most capable 4WD / AWD system, which is easily the largest Cherokee. If you want the best treatment option, it would be the Grand Cherokee SRT and Edge S port. The Santa Fe Sport is the discount player of high value with me the style too. The Murano, unsurprisingly, a comfortable balance in the middle segment with outstanding fuel economy. If you are looking for the best road cruiser for a wine tour weekend in Napa for four, the Murano is exactly the Maxima height you want.
